Help Wanted! Top 6 Reasons To Hire A Freelancer Visual Merchandiser NOW – Until You find Your Full Timer

Inflation? Stagflation? Recession? If the economists, and other so called experts can’t coalesce on a definitive term with what’s going on with the economy right now, what are the rest of us non-experts supposed to make of it? And if we are in a recession now or about to go into one, why are there so many jobs available?

Too many jobs – too few applicants.

To be sure, a lot of these headlines on various media outlets are purely designed as click bait, devised to scare us into opening the article up to count as a “view” for their editors. And, much like political articles from different sources that repeat over and over THEIR view of what YOU should believe – it’s what a simple Google will tell you: “Repetition bias is a cognitive bias in which there is a willingness to believe what we have been told most often and by the greatest number of different sources.” Or what most of us would term simply as a self full filling prophecy – if you say it often enough, a lot of people are going to believe it.

But I digress from the point of this post – why are there so many job wanted ads that are not being filled? And, in particular, why are the same job ads advertised over and over and still not filled? And it’s not just been a few weeks, it’s months and months on end, really since the economy tried to open up after the Covid lockdown of 2020. Hmmmm – cue Thinking Guy/Gal Emoji.

Hmmm – why ARE there so many job ads and no takers? And, why do these jobs go seemingly unfilled for an infinity?

It’s an answer I’m not qualified to answer. One simple answer is that the jobs don’t pay enough. To expand on that, the jobs may be geographically undesirable (commute time). Whatever the reason, these jobs are not being filled. My advice to these companies – hire a freelancer until you find someone full time.

Top 6 Reasons To Hire A Freelancer:

1.) No need to pay for benefits- with a freelancer there will be no need to add benefits like health insurance, paid time off or vacations.

Freelancers generally have their own health insurance and are not looking for job benefits as a rule.

2) A skilled freelance Visual Merchandiser wears many hats and is comfortable interacting with customers until a sales person becomes available.

Maybe you’re short on sales staff too? A skilled freelance Visual Merchandiser wears many hats and is comfortable interacting with customers until a sales person becomes available.

3) A freelancer probably already knows the general outlines of the gig as soon as he/she enters the store/venue and will need very little to no guidance to jump right in and get to work.

With very little guidance your freelancer will hit the floor running in getting your selling floor ready for a busy day! You can probably tell your freelancer in about 5 – 10 minutes what you need accomplished and they’ll be set with very few questions throughout your busy day.

4) Visual freelancers are used to the come and go of gigs, the changing landscape of any clients’ every day needs and concerns for the best staffing solution.

When you’ve finally found that perfect full time person who has been waiting for this opportunity, don’t worry about telling your freelancer that they won’t be needed going forward. They are used to the ebb and flow of freelance gigs and understand small – and large – business needs.

5) If that new hire doesn’t work out or finds a new job, most likely your freelancer will return to take over until you find that new talent!

Even if your new hire doesn’t work out or suddenly leaves for unknown reasons, reconnect with your freelancer. Any freelancer worth his or her salt wants to maintain a happy client list. They will probably be more than glad to come back and help you out until you find that new full timer. That’s how professional we are!

6.) And finally, you, the independent shop owner – or large store chain, or wholesale showroom owner, might just decide after a time with your freelancer that the arrangement actually works quite well for you and your business. Not only is the job getting accomplished well in a timely no-fuss manner – but it’s actually a cost effective staffing solution. A Win Win for everyone involved!

In the final analysis whether you choose to hire a freelance visual merchandiser as a temporary solution or as an ongoing basis, a professional freelance merchandiser will be a forever great contact to keep in your smartphone!
